C.I.Agent Solutions Uses Alternative Technologies to Aid Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup Efforts

C.I.Agent Solutions has been working in the Gulf of Mexico and testing the company’s latest innovations since April 26, 2010 as part of oil spill and recovery efforts from the Deepwater Horizon explosion.

Currently stationed along Dauphin Island, Alabama, C.I.Agent’s team has begun using the company’s latest alternative technologies for fuel and oil spill containment and cleanup. Together with the Alabama National Guard, they have built the world’s longest oil-water separator – a six-mile long barrier that has been installed in record time. This oil-water separator has been created to allow the use of the company’s flagship product, C.I.Agent®, an environmentally-friendly blend of food-grade polymers that solidifies hydrocarbons (sheen, gasoline, diesels and oil including crude) into a recyclable rubber-like mass. C.I.Agent is listed on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) NCP Product Schedule*.

In addition to the oil-water separator, C.I.Agent has successfully deployed three new and innovative marine industry products during the Gulf oil spill containment and cleanup efforts:

C.L.A.M. - Oil Spill Containment Solution
C.L.A.M. – Oil Spill Containment Solution

  • C.I.Agent® C.L.A.M. (Continuous Low-Level Aquatic Monitoring) is a state-of-the-art submersible extraction sampler using EPA approved Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) media to sequester pesticides, herbicides, PAH’s, TPH and other trace organics from water. The C.L.A.M. can be used to sample urban water systems, rivers, monitoring wells, drinking water systems, watersheds and lakes, agricultural runoff, storm water and marine environments.
  • Hydrocarbon Detection Strips - Oil Spill Containment Solution
Hydrocarbon Detection Strips – Oil Spill Containment Solution
  • C.I.Agent® Hydrocarbon Detection Strips quickly and accurately determine the presence of hydrocarbons in water. When the Hydrocarbon Detection Strip is introduced into a potential hydrocarbon situation, the light blue strip will turn a darker blue if hydrocarbons are present. The color intensity and size of the darker blue areas are indications of the quantity of hydrocarbons contained in the sample.
  • C.I.Agent® Water Cannon is an effective spill response tool for applying C.I.Agent® oil-solidifying polymers directly onto a hydrocarbon spill in fresh and salt water. The Water Cannon’s unique design creates a vortex within the water jet to prevent the hydrophilic polymers from separating from the water during application, eliminating the possibility of the polymers becoming airborne. The Water Cannon is custom built to size, flow and pressure requirements and can be hand held or mounted.

According to C.I.Agent Solutions Founder and CEO Dan Parker, “We are honored to be asked by BP to participate in the Gulf cleanup efforts and showcase our innovative solutions. Our new products are proving that they can help clean up hydrocarbon spills on fresh or salt water – including the sheen – for less time and money than the present dated methods.”
